Part-Time Advanced Practice Clinician

Provide clinical care to Emerson College students experiencing acute illnesses/injuries and chronic health conditions at the Boston campus health center.

The position is part-time 26 hours/week and will include coverage of one evening clinic until 7 PM with at least 3 full days and up to 4 partial days on campus with the balance of hours providing telehealth and triage evaluation remotely based upon team needs.

Reports To: Director, Center for Health & Wellness

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess/manage acute illnesses & injuries
  • Obtain health histories, medication use, allergies & risk assessment screenings
  • Review immunization status & provide immunizations
  • Functions under the defined scope of practice for Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant which include, but are not limited to, assessment, diagnosis, ordering/interpretation of laboratory or x-rays as well as prescribing of medication when indicated
  • Refers students to specialists as appropriate
  • Collaborate and consult with other CHW team clinicians as well as the consulting physician when appropriate and to fulfill Commonwealth of MA regulations


Your Other Responsibilities:
  • Phone and on-site triage assessment of students presenting/calling ith non-emergency health concerns
  • Conduct telehealth visits assess for health concern appropriate to telehealth evaluation or if a higher level of care evaluation is needed, performs telehealth history for all students in advance of in-person CHW evaluation or refers for a higher level of care
  • Perform office procedures including incision and drainage; suturing, CLIA laboratory /microscopy, phlebotomy, basic orthopedic immobilization
  • May participate in the development or implementation of educational outreach activities
  • File Care and Support reports to CAST case manager
  • Document medical visits, follow -up test results within the students EHR on a timely basis
  • Communicate with students through the online secure health portal.
  • Must complete Certification Course for Contact Tracers sponsored by Johns Hopkins and ability to serve as contact tracer and/or supervise non-clinical Emerson Contact Tracer during COVID-19 pandemic


Your Qualifications:
  • Graduate of a professional advanced practice educational program. MS degree in Nursing or related science/health specialty field
  • Current MA license for RN/NP or PA & eligibility for DEA/MDPH prescriptive authority
  • Demonstration of strong interpersonal and excellent clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy & CLIA waived laboratory testing
  • Current CPR certification
  • Working knowledge of the developmental needs of adolescents/ middle-aged adults


You will be preferred if you have:
  • Demonstrated competence and experience with GYN, Contraceptive, STI, PrEP
  • Familiarity using screening tools, PHQ-9, GAD, AUDIT, CUDIT
  • Familiarity with using an electronic medical record (Medicat preferred)
  • Experience with telehealth remote visits
  • Minimum of 2 years prescriptive authority in Commonwealth of MA


Required Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in adult, family, ER or primary care practice setting


Preferred Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice in ambulatory, primary care, ER school or college-based practice setting
  • Experience with a culturally diverse population
  • Prior experience in developing/presenting outreach programs

  • Requires ability to lift and move objects that are under 10 lbs


* In the event of a College-wide Emergency in which the campus is closed, this position may be required to perform the role/responsibilities remotely or on campus including the possibility of weekend coverage.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 26.00

Salary: $53,864.80
