About the Department/Unit

Summary/Objective

The Video & Photo Production Coordinator manages all phases of video production for the School of Communication. The incumbent works closely with team members responsible for web, social media, advertising, and events to best leverage video/audio/photo productions on the website and across social media platforms. The Coordinator manages and operates the school’s digital asset management system. The position supervises student workers and liaise with outside vendors and colleagues across the university.

Essential Functions
  1. Execute all phases of video production: ideation/conceptualization; pre-planning; scripting/storyboarding; location scouting/approvals; organizing/conducting interviews; securing release forms; lighting; sound recording; interview/B roll video capture; editing; post-production; ADA compliance captioning; posting on web and other delivery mechanisms; tagging, descriptive captioning, and uploading to the school’s digital asset management system.
  2. Work in conjunction with the other members of the SOC Communication & Outreach team to best leverage video/audio/photo productions on the website and across social media platforms.

  3. Oversee transfer of photo assets to the school’s digital asset management system including uploading, tagging, descriptive captioning; and respond to requests for photos from on- and off-campus collaborators.
  4. Manage and operate the school’s digital asset management system: Responsible for being the lead user/manager of the system, ensuring proper procedures are followed by all users, with particular emphasis on the proper selection, tagging, and captioning of all assets.
  5. Serve as the department liaison with other producers of video and photo content (staff, faculty, students, alumni, vendors) both within SOC as well as at the other AU schools, the central university, and external sources.
  6. Other special duties and service on university committees as directed by the Director in support of the School’s strategic goals.


Work Environment
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Travel throughout the District/Maryland/Virginia region will be required. Travel beyond the capital region may be required based on assignment.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with specialization in film/video/media production, photography, broadcast journalism or similar field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree with specialization in film/video/media production, photography, broadcast journalism or similar field.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Experience in all facets of video and photo pre-production, production, and post-production, including conceiving, planning, organizing and conducting video/photo shoots; editing and producing draft and final versions of the works; and organizing all assets (including release forms and other supporting documentation) in the online archive.
  • Expertise with standard video and DSLR cameras, lighting equipment, and sound equipment.
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud programs related to video, photo and graphic design (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, Premiere)
  • Must be able to lift video equipment weighing up to 30 pounds, including but not limited to tripods, video recording and playback equipment, video cameras, projectors, monitors, and other audio/visual devices.
