Job Description:
Reporting to the Vice President of Online Learning, the Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leading the Champlain College Online (CCO) marketing and communication strategies from the start of the prospective student lifecycle until enrollment and beyond. A proven track record in the strategic planning and execution of an integrated marketing and communications campaign that generates sustainable growth of online education programs is required.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Realize the College's strategic goals for growth by developing, implementing and assessing a comprehensive and integrated marketing and public relations plan.
  • Set strategy and allocate resources to support open enrollment (e.g., search, social media, etc.) and business-to-business (B2B) marketing.
  • Use data to manage the cost of enrolling a student by channel, staying within overall targets.
  • Manage CCO's web properties to clearly communicate program value propositions, maximize lead conversion, and build the brand. 
  • Develop effective drip communications to engage students throughout the enrollment lifecycle.
  • Oversee the development of press releases, feature stories/articles, and other organic content, in partnership with the Champlain College marketing team.
  • Select, manage, and evaluate the performance of third-party service providers. 
  • Collaborate with the academic leadership team to provide marketing support for current programs and new program launches.
  • Provide leadership to the marketing department and B2B team; hire, train, supervise and evaluate the team.
  • Create a culture of student-first decision-making, always keeping student success at the heart of what we do.
  • Develop and maintain proper budget, fiscal and personnel resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Online Learning.


  • Bachelor's degree. Master's degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related field preferred.
  • Experience in a senior marketing role focused on enrollment and lead conversion for postsecondary online programs.
  • Knowledge of best practices in marketing and communications, especially with respect to lead conversion through digital channels and/or marketing to corporations with tuition benefit/assistance programs.
  • Substantive supervisory experience of a high-performing team
  • Demonstrated skill in writing, editing, publication production and project management.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others within and external to the College.
  • Demonstrated ability working with diverse populations.
