Position Summary

This position will lead the development of a Mental Health Strike Team for Long Term Care facilities. The COVID -19 pandemic has affected the mental health of long-term care staff and residents and this Strike Force Team will see to alleviate psychological issues via training, education, and deployment. In addition, this position will offer a disaster mental health elective course for the Disaster Management Masters of Public Health program. The elective course will provide students with content related to traumatic stress brought on by disasters and the impact that has an individuals and communities.

It is expected that the faculty member will assume the responsibilities of developing and
maintaining a deployable Mental Health Strike Team for long-term care facilities in Georgia and teach a disaster mental health course in the disaster management MPH program. The successful applicant will direct all mental health strike team activities, including curriculum development, identifying and training team members, liaising with the long-term care community and other stakeholders, and maintaining communication with IDM leadership. In addition, the successful applicant will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and teaching a disaster mental health course.

Founded in 2005, the College of Public Health is located on the University of Georgia’s Health Sciences Campus. The College consists of four departments, Health Policy and Management, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health Promotion and Behavior, and Environmental Health Science, and three institutes, IDM, Institute of Gerontology, and Global Health Institute. The HPAM Department is located in newly renovated facilities that house faculty, staff, and students.

The Department offers an undergraduate minor in health policy and management, an MHA degree, and a DrPH degree. In addition, HPAM supports health policy and management and disaster management concentration areas within the College of Public Health MPH program. The College of Public Health is actively engaged in community outreach activities. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • 5 years of experience working in the discipline of disaster and emergency management and/or disaster mental health.
  • A minimum of 15 years of documented field experience.
  • Preference given to individuals with the Critical Incident Stress Management and Psychological First Aid training.
  • Preference given to those certified in IS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800; and Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise in an academic classroom and for adult learners.
