Assistant Professor for Cybersecurity – 124720
University of West Florida Center for Cybersecurity


The University of West Florida (UWF) Center for Cybersecurity in Pensacola, Florida, invites applications for an Assistant Professor (Position #124720) with the Center for Cybersecurity and can be tenure-track or non-tenure earning depending on the candidate's education and experience. The position will support the Center’s nationally recognized education, training, research, and outreach activities. This is a full-time, 9-month faculty position with a tenure-track option in the appropriate academic department if desired and a guaranteed 1.0 FTE summer appointment that can start September 2022 or later.


Position Highlights

The UWF Center for Cybersecurity is seeking an aspiring cybersecurity leader with demonstrated contributions in cybersecurity education, training, research, and grantsmanship. Candidates with demonstrated experience developing and teaching various cybersecurity courses and/or training programs are encouraged to apply. Teaching and research interests include but are not limited to cybersecurity defense, offense, and operations, critical infrastructure and ICS security, artificial intelligence and/or machine learning for cybersecurity, cybersecurity education and training, and industry certification courses. Successful candidates will have a track record of publications and grants to support education, workforce development, and research.


Position Qualifications

Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution and a demonstrated record of cybersecurity-related teaching, research, and service.


Preferred Qualifications

Any of the items listed below are preferred.


Demonstrated experience in cybersecurity teaching, training, and/or curriculum development, as evident through teaching experience, impact, and recognitions. Development and instruction of cybersecurity courses, including undergraduate, graduate, and/or continuing education courses in face-to-face, online and/or distance learning environments. Development and delivery of cybersecurity training and workforce development programs. Development and instruction of industry certifications including but not limited to Security+, CEH, or CISSP.


Demonstrated experience in securing external funding to support education, research, and workforce development, as evident through external grants, contracts, peer-reviewed publications, and/or presentations. Prior experience in the role of PI or Co-PI on funded grants or contracts.


Familiarity with cybersecurity training, workforce development programs, and/or cyber ranges. Cybersecurity industry certifications including but not limited to Security+, CEH, or CISSP. Industry or government experience. Capability of holding a security clearance. Demonstrated K12 outreach or service to the community and field.


Salary: Salary is competitive and commensurate with education, experience and rank.
