Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, non-tenure track Librarian Professor and Chair of the Department of Library Resources in the Kennesaw State University Library System beginning September 1, 2022.

As a member of Library Administration, the Department Chair leads with a unified vision that supports the Dean and inspires excellence in library collections, services, and professionalism.  This position reports directly to the Assistant Vice President and Dean of the Kennesaw State University Library System.

Responsibilities Include

  • Provides leadership and administrative oversight and coordination for the Library System departments involved with metadata, acquisition, procurement, licensing, preservation, and access for all Libraries’ scholarly materials and collections.
  • Provides oversight of fiscal activities relating to expenditures for library materials and associated services, attends to appropriate controls and reporting, and fosters effective communication channels with the university’s Fiscal Services, Accounts Payable Office, and the Office of Legal Affairs to ensure compliance with DOAS procurement regulations and guidelines, as well pertinent university financial policies.
  • Responsible for timely and systematic procurement and/or licensing of collections as well as provision of full access through the integrated library system and other technologies.
  • Supervises, mentors, and trains faculty and staff in the Department of Library Resources, establishing workloads, workflows, and developing and advocating for training and professional development in light of the overall organizational needs and priorities.
  • Participates in shared governance; Serves as an ex-official member of the Library Faculty Council.
  • Works collaboratively with peers across the state through Georgia Interconnected Libraries and other networks in order to streamline and improve processes regarding library resources for all USG libraries.

 

Required Qualifications Include

  • Earned ALA-accredited Masters in Library Science, or the foreign equivalent;
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in increasingly responsible administrative and managerial positions within an academic library system;
  • Leadership and effective communication skills to be able to connect with and positively influence library faculty and staff;
  • Ability to conceptualize and capacity to innovate and contribute toward transformative organizational change;
  • Familiarity with procurement regulations, including contract/licenses negotiations and management;
  • Substantial experience in at least two of the following functional areas: budgeting/acquisitions, collection development, serials and/or e-resources management, cataloging/metadata management, systems/authentication/web development, budgeting.

 

Preferred Qualifications Include

  • Completed or in process advanced academic degree;
  • Knowledge of evolving metadata standards and mark-up languages;
  • Evidence of professional service and record of presentations and publications;
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, including flexibility in meeting objectives and implementing creative solutions.
