ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include but are not limited to: promoting positive community relations in the performance of his or her job duties; patrolling the campus on foot, bicycle, or vehicle, while responding to incidents and conducting security checks of building and property; and working at the dispatch communication desk on a rotating schedule while on duty answering the college switchboard, operating and monitoring all college security/notification systems.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: High school graduate, or GED equivalent. Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and able to undergo satisfactory criminal background and DMV investigation. Certified CPR and First Aid provider. Previous experience in working in a collegiate environment preferred. Possess basic computer aptitude, and event planning experience in a similar environment. Individual must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Training in mediation, verbal de-escalation, and diversity.
NIGHT SHIFT SCHEDULE:
Shifts are based on a two-week repeating cycle with scheduled workdays as follows:
Week 1 = Wed. and Thurs. 8PM – 8AM
Week 2 = Mon., Tues., Fri., Sat., Sun. 8PM – 8AM
Successful candidates must be flexible and willing to work extra shifts and special events as needed. The Campus Safety Officer is regarded as essential personnel and attendance is expected during inclement weather and other emergency conditions.
