Job Position

Continuing Lecturer in Special Education

 

Job Description

The Department of Educational Studies (www.edst.purdue.edu) at Purdue University invites applications for a 10-month Continuing Lecturer position in Special Education to begin August 2022. In this position, the faculty member will be expected to teach a 4/4 load of courses in our undergraduate programs. The EDPS 26501 course is designed to provide an overview of the characteristics of children (birth through age 21) with disabilities, causes of disability, assessment techniques, and instructional strategies. Emphasis is placed upon the development of an inclusive lesson plan based on student needs in the field experience classroom. Characteristics addressed include learning, behavioral, social-emotional, and communicative abilities and needs for students with mild and intense support needs. Issues related to cultural differences and family impact will also be addressed. In addition, the faculty member will be expected to contribute to faculty service requirements. Applicant documents should demonstrate that they meet the following:

 

Required Qualifications

  • Hold a Master’s degree in special education or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience working with individuals with disabilities in P-12 settings, and
  • A record of teaching excellence in P-12 school settings

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preparing and/or supervising in-service and/or pre-service teachers,
  • Expertise in multiple areas of special education content (e.g., inclusive pedagogy, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), culturally responsive teaching)
  • Experience teaching in higher education
