Special Information

A member of the leadership team in the Office of the Dean of the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, the Events Manager leads or provides high level support for the dean, associate deans, chairs and directors in several areas of critical college operations, including strategic communication, event planning and scholarship administration, and building management. The Manager serves as a member of the Dean's Office leadership team. The successful candidate will have strong project management, analytic, organizational, and communication skills. Collaboration, engagement with and commitment to diversity and inclusion, capacity to manage multiple demands and adaptability are also required for success in the position.

Job Description

The Manager will have direct responsibility for the following areas of college operations:

Strategic Communication—25%
  • Promote and market SBS events and news to NAU students, staff/faculty, alumni and Flagstaff community through calendar listings, press releases, e-newsletters, bi-weekly emails, digital slides, and website/social media posts
  • Promote SBS research to NAU News
  • Liaison to University Marketing; coordinate with college units to promote effective web communication, social media per NAU standards; support development of marketing material aligned with NAU branding guidelines and assist with unit earned media
  • Maintain college webpage content and additional unit webpages, coordinate unit webpage editors when applicable, and manage college and department (if applicable) social media platforms

Event Planning—20%
  • Plan and coordinate college events and public programming in collaboration with the Dean and Development Director. Events include: Annual SBS Fall Faculty & Staff Meeting, College Awards, Community Partner Breakfast, SBS Commencement and SBS Commencement Receptions, Hall of Fame, Summer Seminar Series and other special events.
  • Manage event budgets and track expenditures. Process invoices with College and Foundation accounts.
  • Create, conduct, and analyze event surveys to evaluate audience motivation, engagement and satisfaction

Scholarship & College Awards Administration—15%
  • Management of college level scholarships, including heading the SBS scholarship selection committee, liaisoning with unit level scholarship coordinators, promotion, application processing, maintenance of scholarship database, and eForm implementation.
  • Manage Teacher of the Year and College Awards process

Facilities/Building Management—25%
  • Oversight of building management for the SBS Castro building; participate in university building management meetings, liaison with Facility Services
  • Liaison with ITS for maintenance and upgrades of instructional technology and classroom equipment
  • Oversee building management of SBS Castro including building and classroom security and access, monitoring of building conditions, oversight of staff supporting building management
  • Serves as point-of-contact and/or coordinates interior design projects and building large-space planning with NAU/SBS Dean for both SBS Castro and SBS West
  • Support dean's office planning for improvements to public and front facing office spaces
  • Orchestrate faculty office assignments and office preparations in conjunction with the associate dean for personnel and graduate programs, including moving of office furniture/technological equipment, purchasing of office furniture, coordination of cleaning/painting/flooring/electrical and other office needs
  • Oversee Property Surplus pickups
  • Coordinate building projects

Administrative—15%
  • Collaborates with students, staff, faculty and administrators to identify and resolve issues and conflicts requiring discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Collaborate with SBS Dean's office and unit administrative staff to assign technological items (computers, printers, monitors, etc.) to departmental staff and faculty
  • Coordinate with unit administrative staff to maintain inventory and assign office furnishings
  • Supervise SBS administrative staff involved in events, scholarship processing, projects and/or building management
  • Other duties as assigned by dean or associate deans


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communication, Social Science, Business, Liberal Arts or related field
  • 1-2 years of project management experience
  • 2-4 years of progressively responsible, relevant administrative or management experience
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $54,779. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of employment. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of employment.
