Job Description

Providence College School of Continuing Education offers a post-baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program with non-degree and degree-based options approved by the RI Department of Education. The institution is looking qualified adjunct faculty for approved options in Secondary Grades (grades 7-12) certification in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.

Adjunct instructors are regularly hired to teach various education courses in the Teacher Certification Program, including Educational Psychology, Principles of Secondary Education, Special Needs, Reading in the Content Area, Educational Measurements, and Methods (Secondary), as opportunities arise. We also hire clinical instructors to provide supervision and evaluation of student teachers and facilitate the student teachers’ seminar.
Adjunct faculty prepares and delivers relevant course content using a variety of teaching methods and assessments that support student learning. Ensures that students achieve and demonstrate mastery of stated learning objectives.

Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations.

While there are occasional online courses offered, the majority of courses require some on-campus presence.

Essential Duties
  • Teaches assigned course(s) by delivering appropriate course content to students, preparing course materials and lesson plans using the college LMS, and addressing students questions and/or concerns
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement and performance in accordance with college policies and procedures
  • Develops and distributes, a college approved syllabus that includes course objectives, texts, attendance policy and materials required for course and evaluation criteria
  • Provides timely feedback and grades on assignments and posts final grades within proscribed timeframe.
  • Refers students to appropriate college sources
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Required
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in Education or a related field of study from a regionally accredited institution, or other appropriate accreditation as determined by Providence College School of Continuing Education
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in secondary education, and evidence of recent teaching effectiveness
  • Experience in teacher development and training is preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred
