Position Description

The Department of History in the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized, applicants for a pool of part-time teaching appointments history.

The mission of the Department of History is to provide CSUDH students with educational opportunities that meet the highest academic standards, to model for students the value of diversity and cultural pluralism, and to transform our students into life-long learners capable of realizing their personal and professional ambitions. The Position

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned lower-division and/or upper-division courses in the department's global curriculum and provide weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load. In AY 2021/2022, the department may need additional faculty to teach the following courses:

HIS 120: World History I, to 1500

HIS 121: World History II, 1500-present

HIS 360: African History to the 1880s

HIS 368: Colonial Mexico

HIS 369: Modern Mexico

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in the discipline of History, or ABD and currently enrolled in a History Ph.D. program.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to diversity and the ability to employ a range of pedagogies to teach effectively undergraduates from a range of age groups, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Ph.D. in hand and those with prior teaching experience at the college or university level who can furnish evidence of good performance.

Employment Requirement - Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017, as a condition of employment.
