Title: Instructor 12 Month/Director of Medical Laboratory Technology Program (Term)

Position Summary: This position is responsible for delivering quality instruction using integrative technologies. Faculty are expected to provide academic advising to students and participate in college, department and community activities related to the College's mission. The program director must be responsible for the organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the program. The program director must participate in the budget preparation process. The program director must be responsible for maintaining NAACLS approval of the program. The program director must have regular and consistent contact with students, faculty and program personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach 28-32 hours per academic year via on ground, online, hybrid or web-enhanced modalities as assigned.

Teach evening, weekend, off-campus, dual enrollment and distance-based courses as required.

Develop curriculum, evaluate and review of credit and non-credit courses.

Evaluate and monitor progress to achieve goals and objectives (and those by any licensing, registering or certifying agency as applicable); assist with affiliation and accreditation efforts.

Recruit and advise students and support persistence/progression through graduation.

Maintain office hours and availability to students.

Complete required College trainings.

Complete all required reports such as attendance, Early Alerts, progress reports, grade submissions and administer and return surveys by the required deadlines.

Attend college, department, and faculty meetings.

Serve on college and department committees.

Attend professional development activities.

Participate in community service.

Comply with all of the College's and TBR's policies and guidelines.

Supervises and evaluates faculty.

Ensures compliance with Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines, licensure requirements, and other state and federal regulations, maintains the program accreditation through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical laboratory Sciences (NAACLS); supervises and directs required reporting to state and national agencies.

Develops department budget.

Collaborates with other outside agencies to identify new courses and programs.

Coordinates with clinical sites including scheduling of students, facilitating orientation to sites, functioning as emergency contact, provides line of communications with clinical sites; extensive travel required.

Oversees use of facilities and equipment for day, evening, and weekend classes offered by Medical Laboratory program.

Acts as liaison between students, sponsoring agencies, local medical community and state level certifying/licensing agency; conduct advisory committee meetings.

Recruit and advise students concerning the Medical Laboratory program; addresses student concerns regarding instruction and evaluation.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Master's Degree from an accredited institution. Degree must include: Sixteen (16) semester hours or twenty-four quarter hours of chemistry which shall include one (1) full academic year of general chemistry courses (including lecture and laboratory) and one (1) course in organic chemistry or biochemistry (including lecture and laboratory), Sixteen (16) semester hours or twenty-four (24) quarter hours of biological sciences, including a course in microbiology (lecture and lab). Three (3) semester hours or four and one half (4.5) quarter hours of pre-science mathematics. Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience. Hold ASCP-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist. Licensed or eligible for licensure in Tennessee.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a Doctorate Degree in Biological Science from an accredited institution. Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in a hospital/clinical medical laboratory with supervisory or management experience. Minimum of three (3) years full or part-time equivalent collegiate level teaching experience in an accredited Medical Laboratory program; extensive experience in clinical practice.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Work Characteristics: Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.

Pay Rate: 56,660.00 - 70,820.00 annual salary depending on experience
