Position Summary

Employees are expected to use chemicals, supplies and equipment to manufacturer and University standards and to comply with University and OSHA policies and regulations. Employees new to this job title must complete safety training within 6 months of hire.

Essential Job Functions of Position

Work assignments for this position may include any or all of the following plus other duties as assigned.

Set up meeting rooms according to written instructions, room diagrams, furnishings and equipment needed for each event, e.g., tables, chairs, staging, portable dance floor, public address systems, portable screens, data and other types of projectors, TV monitors, VCR and DVD players. Examine and troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment as requested by event sponsors. Clean and return rooms to original state upon event completion.

Assist in coordinating activities of student employees and serve as a resource for student employees who have questions about room set-ups and other job assignments.

Polish stone floors using stone floor polishing techniques.

Dust furniture; shampoo fabric furniture and carpets; wash woodwork, walls, windows and doors; sweep, mop, dust mop, scrub, strip and refinish hard surface floors; clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish toiletry supplies; unstop sinks and toilets as needed. Clean offices: vacuum carpet, remove trash, clean lighting fixtures, replace light bulbs, etc. Empty building trash and recycle bins according to established schedules.

Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of areas immediately outside of buildings: remove ice and snow from steps and within 10 feet of entry ways; sweep and police entry areas regularly.

Maintain building appearance and utility: remove posters/flyers from walls, windows, and bathroom partitions; remove graffiti; remove tape/tape residue from tables and other surfaces; spot clean carpets and furniture; arrange and reset lounge furniture to original configuration as needed; unstop sinks and toilets.

Monitor building for safety and security and report concerns to supervisor and/or campus police as appropriate. Lock and unlock building and meeting rooms as required. Monitor space for damage and report identified concerns to supervisor. Respond immediately to requests to clean up spills and to emergencies related to weather or building systems.

Perform minor, routine maintenance on equipment, e.g., changing vacuum bags, changing batteries in microphones, clocks, tightening screws on tables and other constructed equipment.

Non-Essential Job Functions of Position

Education and Experience

Prior custodial work experience. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make responsible decisions.

Position may require all or some of the following in addition to above requirements according to the position: Ability to trouble-shoot minor problems with AV equipment, scoreboards, sound systems and other technical equipment. Ability to use stone floor polishing equipment and techniques.

Preferred: High School diploma or GED . Prior work experience in a conference facility, public schools or higher education.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to read and interpret written instructions and/or room diagrams. Ability to read, comprehend and apply written and verbal instructions in English; to communicate effectively with students, staff, supervisors and other customers; to assist with coordination of student employees; to respond appropriately to questions and/or concerns; to adapt to frequent operational changes; to work outdoors in a variety of climate conditions; to work independently under general supervision.

Ability to reach and lift equipment above shoulders and sustain repetitive lifting and moving motion; to move and maneuver materials and equipment weighing as much as 60 pounds without assistance or 100 pounds with assistance; to work from ladders or lifts and hydraulic lift platforms as high as 30 feet.

Ability and willingness to work overtime as required during weekends, evenings and holidays.

$12.50/hr may be eligible for $1.00/hr shift differential

Work Schedule

Monday - 2:30pm to 11:00pm, Tuesday - 2:30pm to 11:00pm, Wednesday - 2:30pm to 11:00pm, Thursday - 2:30pm to 11:00pm, Friday - 2:30pm to 11:00pm, Other - Some weekends as needed.
