Complex Care Pediatrician

West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics seeks a Complex Care Pediatrician (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV.

Successful candidate may also be assigned to provide services at other worksites, including but not necessarily limited to, West Virginia University Hospitals, Inc., West Virginia University Medical Corporation doing business as “University Health Associates,” [etc.] located in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania and, as such, travel is anticipated and expected to fulfill said duties at these other worksites

Duties: The successful candidate will join our growing program providing a patient/family centered medical home for medically complex pediatric and adolescent patients. We provide both primary care and consultative coordination of care for a wide variety of medical conditions. In addition to a dedicated Complex Care Clinic, our Complex Care Team participates in multidisciplinary clinics and works closely with pediatric pulmonary in the Technology Dependent Clinic caring for patients that are ventilator dependent at home. We participate in a proactive approach to facilitate progress and support improved quality of life for our patients and their families. Our program utilizes innovative approaches to serve a statewide population that includes remote and rural areas through the use of telemedicine and virtual technologies. There are many opportunities for research and development in the growing field of complex and coordinated care. Currently our team includes one nurse coordinator with NICU experience, one part-time advanced practice provider with extensive PICU and congenital heart disease follow-up experience, and a board certified pediatrician/neonatologist.

In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents and interprofessional learners in clinic, at the bedside and through the use of our state-of-the-art STEPS Simulation Center.

Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible to obtain a state medical license. Successful candidate must have completed a pediatric residency program. Preference will be given to candidates completing a specialty fellowship program. Successful candidates must be board certified / eligible in pediatrics. For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor ranks, a demonstrated track-record of leadership, excellent communication skills, and publications in high-impact journals are required. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital is the premier site within the state for primary through tertiary care of children. The department has close working relationships with colleagues in the pediatric surgical subspecialties and pediatric radiology. The department is committed to providing excellent clinical care to the children of West Virginia, a collegial academic environment that fosters professional growth and high quality teaching to our students and house staff. With an anticipated opening in the Fall of 2022, our new 150 bed Children’s Hospital will have a full suite of pediatric operating rooms, cardiac catheterization lab/interventional radiology, and GI-endoscopy with dedicated pediatric anesthesia staff. The hospital will include 34 pediatric beds, 54 NICU beds, 26 PICU beds, Heart Center, and a dedicated Cancer Center. WVU Medicine Children’s is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, with plans to become Level 1, as it is for adults currently. There will also be a Birthing Center including a 30-bed obstetrical unit and maternal-fetal medicine clinic. J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, the only epilepsy monitoring unit in the state equipped to serve children, and the only hospital in the state to receive Magnet status for nursing excellence.
