The Management, Information Systems, and Quantitative Methods (MISQ) Department of the Collat School of Business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty member, at the rank of Associate or Professor, in Management area with a specialty in Strategy to begin Fall 2023. Applicants at the Associate Professor or Professor rank are preferred; however, Assistant Professors with well-established research and teaching records will be considered. Rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Management (MG) group within the MISQ department has a variety of research interests, including leadership, wellness, bullying/aggression, political skills, operations research, and work-family balance. Within the MISQ department, the applicant will find research interests that can complement management, including cybersecurity, healthcare, entrepreneurship, human resources, and operations management. While high-quality peer-reviewed research is emphasized, the university administration supports other research activities and cross-disciplinary collaborations across the university and with the business community.


The selected individual will provide leadership within the department and school on strategy-related curriculum and initiatives to advance strategy courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants with experience teaching and developing strategy curricula, demonstrated interdisciplinary team building, and community/partner engagement skills are preferred.


Primary teaching responsibilities include graduate courses in strategy, but may include undergraduate management and strategy courses. Specific teaching assignments include developing and delivering online and/or face-to-face courses requiring knowledge and experience using the Canvas Learning Management System. UAB has excellent teaching facilities and support, including multimedia classrooms in a state-of-the-art new building and computer equipment and software to meet teaching needs.

Required Qualifications


Applicants with an earned doctorate in Management or a related business discipline focusing on strategy from an AACSB accredited degree program are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to maintain a strong record of research and scholarship relating to management/strategy. Teaching experience and interests are focused on strategy and management.


Preferred Qualifications


Applicants with experience teaching and conducting research related to strategy will be highly preferred. Preference will also be given to applicants with experience developing graduate and/or undergraduate strategy curriculum. Industry experience is also valued. Applicants who have demonstrated the ability to establish and build community partnerships are preferred. Applicants interested in strategy in the context of health systems will find opportunities to teach and conduct research in these areas at UAB.
