Three-Year Teaching Term Position, Director, Master in Philosophy in Humanities

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking applications for a three-year renewable teaching term appointment as Director of the Master in Philosophy in Humanities program, a position that includes teaching, program coordination and administrative responsibilities, at the rank of assistant professor. The appointment commences September 1, 2022. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in any Humanities or Social Science discipline or Interdisciplinary program, and have a keen interest and documented experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research; excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills; and proven administrative ability. This teaching term appointment includes an annual 9-course load. However, because of the administrative responsibilities of the position, the appointment comes with an annual 4-course remission.

Under the direction of the Dean, and with the support of an Advisory Committee, the Director is responsible for the revision, development, and ongoing administration of the program including all operational activities. Central program objectives for which the Director is responsible include:

• The ongoing creation and maintenance of a vibrant interdisciplinary graduate program which includes students from a wide variety of fields and disciplines;
• and fostering a collaborative and collegial environment in which faculty, lecturers, and community partners can contribute to interdisciplinary research and teaching.

 The Director’s duties fall under three central areas of teaching (60%), program coordination and administration (40%). Teaching responsibilities will be within both the MPhil in the Humanities program, and in the successful applicant’s primary area(s) of interest and expertise within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Given the responsibilities in coordination and administration of the program, this year-round appointment has a five-course teaching load.
