Brief Description of Duties

The Director of Special Programs will lead the inclusive lifecycle management, oversight, budget management, and strategic direction of undergraduate programs, but not limited to,
DC-UP Scholars, transfers and first-year students, Gallup Strengths, and other student populations. Responsibilities include improving recruitment, retention, learning and talent development, and design innovative and transformative models, and facilitating the implementation of integrated learning through shared curricular and non-curricular experiences at local levels. Additional responsibilities are assisting in cultivating and managing partnerships with local high schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversees marketing, planning, and recruitment processes and functions of all special programs in the Office of Student Success.
  • Plans, manages, coordinates, and implements the administration lifecycle, curriculum development, and programming of the Special Program Department that includes formulating program budget.
  • Assists the Assistant Vice President by collecting and analyzing cluster data to drive informed decision-making.
  • Supervises, directs, and manages staff and teams. Develop and manage work schedules. Responsible for recruiting, employee training, and professional development needs.
  • Compiles budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs while ensuring cost-effectiveness.
  • Conducts internal evaluations of program administrative functions to ensure overall compliance, UDC goals are met, and develop new program strategies to effectively enhance the undergraduate student experience.
  • Collaborate with various on-campus stakeholders for various programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Admissions to conduct site visits at local high schools.
  • Ensures that all students and all university employees are strengthened through development and coaching to improve performances in accordance with the Gallup.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Other Duties
  • Coordinate programmatic data collection, prepares reports, and monitors progress of student programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Counseling, Higher Education and/or related field of study.
  • 3-5 years’ experience providing leadership and supervisions.
  • At least 2-years of progressive technical work experience to plan and coordinate events, formulate budgets, and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience working with underrepresented student populations.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a 'satisfactory background investigation' is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
