The School of Education in the College of Human Sciences and Education (HSE) at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Associate Professor of Science Education. The position will be hired at the rank of associate professor, with consideration of tenure based on level and years of experience. This individual will have a strong and cohesive research agenda and publication record in science or engineering teaching and learning at the elementary or secondary level. In addition, they will have a commitment to participating in LSU’s heavily field-based teacher preparation programs and a commitment to working with diverse populations in urban and rural settings. The individual will have a practiced ability to use and model excellent pedagogical skills in face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses and a willingness to support and mentor graduate students in science education. We welcome applicants who have a proven record of securing grants and who utilize a full range of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methodological approaches. At LSU collaboration is highly valued and fostered, thus evidence of working relationships with science and/or engineering faculty as well as other fields is preferred. We seek a colleague who is willing to work at both the elementary and secondary levels and is interested in expanding our current programming to reach a diverse student body in new and innovative contexts. 

Required Qualifications:

- Earned doctorate in science or engineering education from an accredited university
- Previously earned tenure & promotion to the rank of associate professor

- Continuous publication record in science/engineering education research journals and presentations at national/international science or engineering education meetings

- Minimum of two years documented teaching experience at the pre-college level

- State certification to teach science

- Continuous record of external funding

- Experience teaching science education courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; including the elementary science education courses, which are heavily field-based

- Understanding of current issues and trends impacting science and engineering education, including the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards at the pre-college level

- Demonstrated experience in developing and teaching online courses

- Commitment to mentoring graduate students and serving on graduate committees

- Commitment to participate in LSU's innovative and heavily field-based teacher preparation programs

- Commitment to working with diverse populations in urban and rural settings
