The Building and Lab Operations Specialist will be a member of
the Academic Building Operations Management Team, reporting to the
Academic Building Operations Manager, under the Executive Director,
Research Infrastructure & Operations, in the Office of the Vice
Provost for Research.
Working together with other members of the Operations Management
Team, this position will be primarily responsible for supporting
faculty research and teaching laboratories in Higgins Hall and 245
Beacon Street. Some support of general building and classroom
operations may be required as well. The main functions of the
Building & Laboratory Operations Specialist will include Safety
and Security, Maintenance, Renovation, and Equipment Support.
The Building & Laboratory Operations Specialist will
assist the Academic Building Operations Manager in their roles as
Building Safety Contact and Export Liaison.
Safety functions will include matters of general building,
laboratory (including bio-, radiation, chemical, and laser),
classroom, and storage space safety, including emergency
response. Responsibilities regarding maintenance of the
building’s general and research and teaching infrastructure include
observation for building disrepair, processing and following up on
work orders, and participation in renovation projects, personnel,
and equipment installation, maintenance, and
replacement.
Collaboration with colleagues from different groups and departments
will be required such as other staff in the Office of the
Provost/VPR, academic department research, teaching, and
administrative staff, Environmental Health & Safety, Facilities
Management, Planning and Construction, Student Services, Space
Management, Emergency Management.
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and experience with
operations management (>2 years) is required. This
position requires knowledge of research lab operations, and lab
equipment, and documented training in some aspects of lab safety is
preferred.
Night/Weekend presence on-site, in particular in response to
emergencies, will be occasionally required. Must be able to
lift ~50 pounds.
