Job Description:

The Assistant Director for Residence Life is a member of the Residence Life senior leadership team with decision-making, crisis management, strategic and large-scale planning, assessment and policy/procedure-setting responsibilities. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and reviewing a residential program that focuses on safety, programming, and student growth opportunities. In addition, this position is responsible for translating the mission and values of the Residence Life program to facilitate positive student growth, support diversity within the halls and overall student success.

The Assistant Director for Residence Life is responsible for the overall management of their assigned residential area as well as overall residence life in the areas of training, programming, and student conduct.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree required and a minimum of two (2) years post-master’s full-time with significant progressively responsible experience in the administration of student personnel, student housing, residential life programs and supervision of staff. Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to multicultural needs, issues, and opportunities in student residential communities. Previous experience with student conduct, employment, staff selection processes and training and supervision of full-time employees, excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body fostering sensitivity to diversity issues in a university community will be expected of the Associate Director. In addition, developing and maintaining working relationships within Residence Life, Counseling Services, Dining Services, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Conduct, the Division of Student Affairs, University police, and a variety of University faculty members and administrative staff; and a willingness to serve on department and university committees.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in a large-school setting; significant years of experience in residence life.
• Significant administrative experience that includes budgets, project management, planning, policy development and assessment.
• Demonstrated training and teaching experience.
