The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment ( CFWE ) at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant/associate professor level in silviculture and soils with an expected start date of January 1, 2023. This is a full time, tenure track, 9-month appointment with 45% research and 55% teaching responsibilities. The CFWE is a national leader for forestry, wildlife, natural resource management, geospatial and environmental informatics, and biomaterial and packaging education, research, and outreach. Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be expected to establish an extramurally funded, innovative research program focused on the use of contemporary and advanced silvicultural methods to improve forest management, aimed at improving site-specific prescriptions to serve a variety of ecosystem services. The candidate will use appropriate methods to address diverse forest management and sustainability issues that are relevant to private landowners. Applicants will also be expected to teach four undergraduate courses each year (Silviculture, Forest Soils, Forest Biology) and one graduate course in the applicant’s specialty, or another related course as needed by the curricula. Additional responsibilities include recruiting and mentoring graduate students and participating in college and university service.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctoral degree with at least one degree in forestry is required at hire. Applicants should demonstrate strong training/experience in theoretical and applied aspects of silviculture and forest soils as well as current forest management and silvicultural research techniques. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time employment begins and must be able to communicate effectively in English.

Desired Qualifications

A demonstrated record of scholarly publication, extramural funding, and teaching at the university level is highly desirable. To be considered for the Associate Professor level, candidates must provide examples of unique and significant contributions in research and teaching as well as convincing evidence of emerging stature as a regional or national authority in their field.
