The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment ( CFWE ) at Auburn University is looking to expand the forestry faculty and invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-system position at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank in forest resilience to disturbances (65% research, 35% teaching). We seek exceptional applicants whose expertise bridges fundamental and applied forest ecosystem dynamics and can address current and future factors impacting forest ecosystem vulnerability and ecological resilience to changing climate and disturbances like fire, hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding, in the context of forest sustainability and management for multiple ecosystem services. We are especially interested in applicants whose research encompasses, or can be applied to, forest ecosystems found in the southeastern U.S.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate for this position will be expected to develop 1) an internationally-recognized research program by publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and obtaining extramural research funding and 2) interdisciplinary and multisectoral collaborations with research teams on campus and beyond with a broad range of expertise. Teaching duties include a total of 2-3 undergraduate and graduate introductory and/or subject matter specialty courses in forest ecosystem ecology. Responsibilities also include recruiting and training graduate students, undergraduate mentoring, and College, University, and professional service.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in forestry, forest ecology or management, or a related field at the time of employment with expertise in the field of forest ecosystem ecology, especially in relation to addressing vulnerability and resilience of forests and associated challenges with forest management and adaptation strategies. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and a proven track record of publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals is required. Evidence of successfully obtaining research funding is highly desired. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time of appointment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required and a commitment to inclusion and diversity is essential.

Desired Qualifications

A demonstrated record of scholarly publication, extramural funding, and teaching at the university level is highly desirable. To be considered for the Associate Professor level, candidates must provide examples of unique and significant contributions in research and teaching as well as convincing evidence of emerging stature as a regional or national authority in their field.
