Purpose of Position
As the Young Scholars Academy early college program at NKU expands to include 12 total Northern Kentucky school districts, it is necessary tofillthe director role to provide programmatic leadership and to work with directors and administrators in the school districts to make decisions to ensure the success of YSA .

In addition, with increased numbers of YSA students enrolled in the program, it is essential to have a Director in place who will provide supervision and guidance to additional staff. The new Director will also serve as a liaison to NKU faculty and administrators and the school districts’ YSA staff. Primary Responsibilities
This position serves as a Director and lead advisor on a team for academic support for the Young Scholars Academy, working with other YSA staff members and additional offices on campus to ensure student success. This is a renewable, non-tenure track faculty position.

Responsibilities and Duties include:
  • Provide oversight to YSA student schedules by ensuring that students are properly registered for the correct courses and provide advising on an individual case basis as needed to make any schedule changes.
  • Provide individual and group advising to a caseload of YSA students (juniors and seniors).
  • Supervise the YSA Peer Leadership Team.
  • Regularly connect with the Director of Learning PLUS and the Vice Provost of Undergraduate Academic Affairs to share the progress of the YSA program and new initiatives.
  • Collaborate on projects related to the YSA program, and represent YSA program interests throughout the northern Kentucky community.
  • Collect and assess data related to the status and direction of the YSA program, including, but not limited to: unit goals, student grade performance, headcount and enrollment, matriculation, and retention rates for distribution with partnering school districts and NKU administration.
  • Work with department chairs and deans from partnering colleges to develop tracks and degree pathways for YSA students. Connect with department chairs to coordinate course scheduling.
  • Work with the Office of the Registrar at NKU to track progress toward degree, credit hours accumulated, and transcript accuracy for associate degree-seeking YSA students. Help associate degree track students apply for degree-seeking status.
  • Craft program policies, annual reports, and annual MOU agreements in collaboration with the Co-Director. Update YSA handbooks, policies, application materials, the recruitment plan, and the YSA website each academic year.
  • Create rosters and reports for schools within the YSA program including, but not limited to: midterm and final grades, rosters at NKU’s various add/drop deadlines each semester, and communicating with Admissions the contact information for YSA students each semester to enhance Admissions’ outreach to this prospective degree-seeking population.
  • Monitor YSA midterm grades and work with the YSA staff to facilitate intervention meetings and academic improvement plans. Monitor final grades and facilitate academic probation or program removal meetings.
  • Teach 1 section of UNV 101 for YSA students in the fall semester. Teach HNR 100 in the fall semester and/or HNR 200 in the spring semester.
  • Plan new YSA student orientation. Collaborate with other YSA staff to facilitate orientation events and activities.
  • Serve on university-wide committees as needed and directed (i.e., Common Experience, First-Year Experience, etc.)
  • Attend regional and national conferences and events to share early college research and the successes of the YSA program.
Qualifications
Master’s degree with a minimum of two years of high school counseling or academic advising experience in a higher education setting.

Preferred qualifications are a Doctoral degree in Counseling, Communication, Education, or other academic discipline with experience in counseling or academic advising.

Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to articulate an understanding of student development theory and experience working with diverse and underrepresented student populations.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills are required. Ability to work with diverse populations, strong teamwork skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks are also required.
