Advises domestic students on opportunities, academic policy, and requirements for international study for academic credit. Advises students in support of the goal of preparing them for the global and interconnected world. Assists in providing guidance for international students on navigating institutional and academic policy and requirements.

Responsibilities

International Application Processing/Compliance (60%)
  • Receives, evaluates, and processes international student applications according to established policies and procedures to include the collection of application documents, transcript evaluation, review of applications for admissions, and accurate record maintenance of the international student’s applications and enrollment status in PeopleSoft and ImageNow.
  • Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) responsible for compliance with US Title 8 CFR Part 214 as it relates to issuance of initial I-20 immigration documents. Responsible for university compliance with guidance issues by government bodies. Point person for communication with federal and UW Oshkosh requirements related to issuance of I-20 immigration documents for all prospective F-visa holders.
  • Advises domestic students about international study opportunities.
Communication/External Partnerships (20%)
  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains internal and external partnerships focusing on international student outreach, recruitment, and admission.
  • Communicates, promptly responds to questions, and assists prospective international students from the point of initial inquiry all the way through the completion of the recruitment cycle.
  • Partners with other international advisors and campus student resources to provide support and programming for international students on all three campuses.
  • Collaborates with University Marketing and Communications to create and maintain a comprehensive communication flow for international students, providing detailed and individualized communication via campaigns and materials to attain established goals.
  • Assists in the development of international recruitment-focused strategic planning and initiatives.
International Student Support (20%)
  • Serve as a backup to the support team for international students, providing office coverage for the Office of Student Outreach and Retention as needed.
  • Interact individually with international students and other external constituents via phone, video conference and in-person drop-in interactions, providing answers to questions and connecting international students to campus and community resources.
  • Advises domestic students about international study opportunities
  • Counsels international students and support systems on cultural adjustments, policies, and procedures
  • Identifies and refers students to appropriate institutional resources and follows-up on referrals
Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Capable of working autonomously and exhibiting ethical and prudent decision making
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact diplomatically with diverse groups and non-native speakers of English
  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident, per federal regulations
Preferred:
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience working in a collegiate student services environment
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft and ImageNow
  • Understanding of the rules and regulations for international students to enter the United States of America
  • Understanding of international education systems
  • Bilingual
  • Knowledge of UW Oshkosh
