Official Title: Retention Specialist Business Title: Student Success Navigator Employment Class: Non-Instructional Academic Staff FTE: 1.0 Compensation: $45,000-$51,000 FLSA Status: Exempt Terms of Employment:

**24 Month, Fixed-Term Terminal - Special funding for 2 year period of time.

Some evening and weekend hours may be required. A successful applicant must have a valid driver’s license, provide evidence of insurability and be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. The incumbent is subject to a successful criminal background check.

Oversees retention and/or transfer efforts for students who are considered at risk of failing, dropping out of school, or transferring to another school or program. Serves as a resource to faculty, staff, and students.


The successful candidate will be a member of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh enrollment management team. The position will serve as a university ambassador and liaison with prospective students, parents/families, and a main point of contact for students during their first year at UWO. A focus of this position will be to provide prospective students with seamless and positive enrollment experience, in addition to facilitating proactive outreach and support to retain students at the university.
  • Serve as a consistent point of contact and resource for designated prospective students as they move through the application, admission and enrollment process for all three campuses of UW Oshkosh. Utilize a wide variety of tools and modes of communication deemed most appropriate and effective given demographics and stage in process. Build strong rapport with prospective students, family and other constituents working with and supporting the student, responding to all inquiries in a professional and timely manner. (25%)
  • Serve as a consistent point of contact for designated enrolled students as they navigate their first year at UWO. Facilitate intentional and proactive outreach, provide resources, answer questions, and support students in their adjustment to their first year of college. Continue to build strong rapport with students, and notice warning signs leading to withdrawing from the university. Provide support and resources to help retain students at the university. Facilitate follow-up communication for students flagged for concerns in data collection and the early alert system. (25%)
  • Maintain an assigned caseload of prospective students and enrolled students. Proactively reach out to all students throughout their college search, application, enrollment processes, and their first year at UWO. Accurately document, track and report on all contact and communication with prospective and enrolled students, family and other constituents working with students. Operate in terms of individual and departmental metrics of success for each term in review. (25%)
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding processes, programs and services on all three campuses that are important to the successful recruitment and retention of students throughout the inquiry, application, admission, enrollment, and first year at UWO stages. Work collaboratively across the UW Oshkosh community to ensure a seamless and positive application, admission and enrollment process, in addition to supporting a successful first year at UWO for students. (13%)
  • Work collaboratively with Enrollment Management, Admissions Office, Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Academic Support of Inclusive Excellence staff, and other relevant units, in the execution of duties to ensure continuity of experience and information sharing as well as an understanding of recruitment and retention processes, policies and procedures without duplication of services. Assist with meeting university enrollment goals. (10%)
  • Assist with other projects and department responsibilities as necessary, based on skill set and office needs. (2%)

  • Comfortable utilizing technology such as Salesforce, Navigate, PeopleSoft, Image Now, CRM, Microsoft Office, Email, Facebook and other social media outlets in the execution of duties.
  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Master’s degree
  • Professional experience working in higher education, academic advising or student support services, admissions and recruitment, or enrollment management
  • Bilingual
  • Experience in an educational setting including K-12
  • Experience using a customer relationship management (CRM) system
  • Experience using a student information system (e.g. Navigate)
