Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,120 per month

Full classification Salary Range: $3,120 - $4,592 per month
  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Regional Directors of CalStateTEACH in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development and the lead work direction of the Administrative Services Manager, the candidate will serve as the CalStateTEACH Administrative Support Assistant and is responsible for the full range of clerical, secretarial, and general office support functions at moderate to complex levels of complexity. Projects are generally moderate in scope. Duties are varied involving the regular use of judegment and discretion and include communicating information about the program policies and procedures and assisting Regional Directors with administrative tasks.

Key Qualifications
  • Knowledge of:
    • Experience to be proficient in performing most or all work assignments • General knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
    • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Fluent in use of office software packages (Microsoft Office; Word, Excel), computer (PC or Macintosh).
  • Skill/Ability to:
    • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, including tracking, checking and verifying complex records and detailed information.
    • Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough, and at times creative solutions.
    • Effective communication skills and thorough knowledge of program policies, procedures, and requirements.
    • Understand and abide with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and State of California policy regarding the confidentiality of records.
    • Ability to learn, interpret independently and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures and able to identify deviations from applicable policies.
    • Adjust priorities and be responsive to short-notice requests.
    • Work in a fast-paced environment; promote teamwork and collegiality.
    • Draft and compose correspondence and standard reports.
    • Work with students, faculty, staff and the general public from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and promote a positive, service oriented collegial work environment with a variety of individuals.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma, or certificate from a technical/vocational program.
  • Equivalent to two years of general office experience as administrative assistant, which includes operational or procedural administrative support.
    • Preferred Education and Experience
      • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
      • Experience with web based emailing system.
      • PeopleSoft or other web based data management system.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar platform.


Department Summary

CalState TEACH is an alternative path to a multiple subject preliminary teaching credential. CalState TEACH is designed specifically to serve teachers who are interns in addition to future elementary school (grades K-6) teachers in the student teaching option. The Kremen School of Education and Human Development houses one of the two regional centers in the state that administers this web-enhanced program.
