Laborer - Wheat Breeding Program

Position Summary:
This position will assist with the wheat breeding program duties at the Parker Farm, which is located approximately 1 mile east of Moscow on the Troy Highway in Genesee. The position will also assist with greenhouse duties at the Moscow campus greenhouse. Travel is required and is common, but much of the time, work is performed at the two UI sites (Moscow and Genesee).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 2 years of experience working in production, agriculture, or agricultural field research.
  • Experience operating and ability to setup, adjust and use research-scale equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles towing loaded trailers.
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully pass a driver’s record check.
  • Be able to communicate with grower-cooperators to arrange field trial sites.
  • Be able to use email, MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and extra hours, weekends when workload dictates.
  • Willingness to work in adverse conditions such as: hot or cold, dusty, wet and windy conditions.
  • Willingness to travel to different trial locations and travel overnight when required.
  • Willingness to work with/apply chemicals and pesticides, and work with material that have had chemical treatments and in areas or where pesticides are applied while following labeled safety practices.
  • Be able to work cooperatively with others to achieve the best possible outcome of work related.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 year or higher degree in agriculture related field.
  • 4 or more years’ experience working in agricultural field research, especially wheat.
  • Have Idaho private or professional pesticide applicator license.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Will be required to work in typical local climatic conditions outside or inside the greenhouse.
  • Lift, carry, and/or otherwise move seed bags weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to dependably work outdoors 5 days/week and take notes on field plots.
  • Ability to travel to different job sites day to day.
