Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

This is an entry-level, professional position responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospective financial donors of the university. Responsible for advising individuals on issues associated with charitable giving and maintaining professional relationships with current, former and prospective donors. Responsible for working with assigned schools, colleges, etc to develop programs and activities for raising private funds. May require travel in order to develop and maintain relationships with donors and potential donors. Reports to the Assistant Vice President of Development.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Identifies, analyzes, and recommends sources of financial support for the university.
  • Works with assigned schools, colleges, etc. to plan and coordinate fundraising programs and activities with expectations of meeting and/or exceeding established goals.
  • Fosters positive, lasting relationships through personal contact with donors that produce repeat and increased annual, major and planned gifts.
  • Represents assigned departments at social and professional functions, including functions that require travel.
  • Provides ongoing information for academic leadership and faculty regarding fundraising initiatives.
  • Plans and coordinates meetings and social events to recruit and retain university donors.
  • Prepares proposals and presentations for donor prospects, solicits gifts, and negotiates gift agreements.
  • Collaborates with development staff colleagues, members of the Board of Trustees, and key volunteers regarding cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Pursues, expands, and shares expertise and knowledge through participation in applicable professional organizations.
  • Requires frequent travel, evening, weekend, and potential holiday work as well as regular meetings with visitors, alumni leaders, and donors.
  • Solicits and receives private funds from individuals, organizations and others for university, college and departmental discretionary accounts.
  • Update donor software with donor notations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of procedures and related aspects of fundraising, including: annual giving, planning giving, campaign management, and strategic planning.
  • Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintaining a satisfactory work product.
Skill in:
  • Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database and word processing software.
  • Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
Ability to:
  • Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and building strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents and volunteers.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline.

Requires knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
