Under general supervision reports to the Vice President for University Advancement. Manages and orchestrates activities related to the analysis, planning, execution, and evaluation of fund raising, alumni affairs, marketing and communications. Provides staff management for working with and through the Texas Southern University Foundation Board.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Provide senior executive support to the Vice President of University Advancement.
  • Research, or cause to have researched, data on potential individuals, corporations, and philanthropic donors identified by the President of the University, Vice President for University Advancement, Board members, staff and other volunteers, or by virtue of their gift history to like organizations or activities.
  • Establish, develop, and implement comprehensive strategy to increase giving for all areas including annual giving, alumni giving, major and planned to give, capital campaigns and fundraising events.
  • Work with campus partners to create plans for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors and alumni.
  • Support, analyze and implement development strategies at the direction of the Vice President, which will include working with staff and volunteers, task forces, and recommend programs which will enhance and advance the mission, goals, and objectives of the University.
  • Prepare or cause to have prepared, content and materials need for approved fundraising campaigns, donor correspondence, gift recognition/acknowledgment materials, appeal letters etc. Keep up to date on current fundraising, marketing and communications programs, practices, and procedures being utilized in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Work with the Foundation Board in analyzing the fundraising programs and planning for future activities. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Hiring Range
$111,657.00 - $139,572.00


Bachelor’s degree or higher.

Master’s degree preferred.

Required Licensing/Certification

Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundraising process.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools and accountability measures, preferably Raiser’s Edge.
  • Experience in short- and long-term strategic planning. Federal, State, Local, and County laws.
  • Policies, fundraising procedures, and practices.
  • Other job-related software and systems.
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.
Skill in:

  • Fundraising and development and budget management.
  • Coordinating work of others.

Work Experience

Ten (10) years of successful and progressively responsible leadership in all aspects of a mature development program, successful fundraising track-record and strength in developing thoughtful donor strategies in a vast and complex organizations.

Working/Environmental Conditions
  • Work is performed within routine office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions.
  • Travel at least 25% of the year.
  • Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
  • Limited standing and/or walking.
  • Handling light weight objects.
  • Using or carrying equipment.
  • Stoop, bend or lift.
