Senior Simulation Operations Specialist



Summary

The role of the Senior Operations Specialist is to serve as the primary liaison for the coordination, planning, development, and implementation of all Procedural Skill Lab events. The Senior Operations Specialist facilitates high-fidelity human patient simulated learning, manages simulation equipment, media, computers, and materials related to simulation events; operates and troubleshoots simulation software, and ensures events are executed to the highest level of excellence from beginning to end. The Senior Operations Specialist will represent the Simulation Core by supporting faculty, staff, and students with simulation needs and assist with the daily operation of the center.

The Simulation Core consists of three separate labs. They are the Clinical Skills Lab, The Procedural Skills Lab and The Teaching and Practice Lab. The Simulation Core services many different users including, but not limited to, the entire School of Medicine which consists of Undergraduate Medical Education, the School of Health Professions and Graduate Medical Education. The Simulation Operations Specialist is responsible for the day to day operations of all events including labs, exams, training sessions, etc.

Position may be eligible to work a hybrid work schedule.

Job Duties
  • Develops, plans, evaluates and implements goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the Simulation Core.
  • Coordinates with counterparts and other staff to ensure consistency across all BCM simulation locations.
  • Serves as liaison to faculty or clients and recommend appropriate modality of simulation to meet learning and/or assessment objectives (e.g. Standardized Patients, manikins, task trainers, etc.).
  • Plans, implements, and monitors simulation program activities.
  • Leads the hiring and on-boarding process of simulation confederates.
  • Provides on-site supervision and assistance to simulation confederates.
  • Provides advice and orientation to faculty regarding Simulation Center procedures and use of equipment.
  • Advises and assists instructors and learners throughout events to ensure successful learning outcomes.
  • Provides learner orientations, individual learner feedback, and/or group debriefing sessions to all learners.
  • Assists the Simulation Core Managers and Directors with data collection, data reporting and data analysis.
  • Collaborates with Simulation Core Managers and Directors on the design, implementation, and maintenance of quality improvement metrics dashboards.
  • Assesses the needs of the Simulation Core and makes recommendations for annual budget.
  • Plans, leads, and participates in special projects and events.
  • Maintains supply inventories for the lab, as well as assist in creating supply orders.
  • Oversees requests and facilitates the scheduled use of labs, sign-out of equipment, and transportation of simulation equipment needed for simulation events.
  • Serves as the operator of complex simulation equipment throughout simulation events.
  • Oversees event scheduling, learner enrollment, and assessment data collection.
  • Assists in the management, maintenance, and operation of the simulation facility.
  • May work with a variety of animal species and provide all aspects of preoperative support including anesthesia administration and monitoring of animal models for experiments and training labs.
  • May assist with cadaver labs.
  • Position specimens and complete set up of equipment and instruments as required by each session.
  • Monitors session and assist lab users as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or related field. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with clinical skills labs, simulation labs, or health care environment.
  • Experience in EMS SIMULATIONiQ or Learning Space
