Job Description


The Analyst I, SO Budget Administrative Services reviews, oversees and analyzes all budgetary accounts for the campus. Performs analytical duties, characterized by examination of components and determination of relationships, requiring the conceptual analysis and synthesis of information and formulation of recommendations. Typical duties include collecting, compiling, and comparing information and making action recommendations as needed. Responsible for reviewing all campus budgets for trends and conducting analyses as needed, while providing regular reports to management. Position will work closely with Managers and Executives to ensure all campus budgetary guidelines and goals are met and maintained. Works collaboratively and partners with team members across LSC campuses to respond to a variety of requests for research, analysis and the development of financial reports.


  1. Monitors and analyzes all campus operating accounts on a regular basis. Evaluates and forecasts campus spending while recognizing trends. Provides financial analysis and support for campus-wide operational initiatives
  2. Reviews budget trends comparing to expected performance and making recommendations as necessary. Summarizes and submits recommendations for the funding or reallocation of funds
  3. Performs cost-benefits analyses to compare operating program expenditures and review financial requests
  4. Works closely with management to coordinate activities and provide reports to assist in the production of the Annual Operating Budget and its supporting schedules and activities
  5. Examines budgets for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with procedures and policies
  6. Designs and develops reports for campus management. Uses query functions in iStar and other reporting instruments to provide data in useful formats
  7. Works as a team member on broader and more complex projects, as directed by management
  8. Seeks new ways to improve efficiency, and make recommendations as needed
  9. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • Work will involve some travel within the LSC service area (north Greater Houston metro area)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and at least 3 years of related work experience in Accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with budgets, budget modeling and/or other financial analysis
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft and Hyperion

Hiring salary range is $46,300 - $53,245.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
