Purpose of Position
NKU’s Special Collections and University Archives Department seeks an energetic, curious, new to the field archivist as a full time, one year,non-tenure track, temporary Project Archivist to help complete several important projects.

This is an entry level position requiring coursework and experience in electronic records. The first priority will be to finish processing electronic records, formatting the finding aid and other miscellaneous tasks from a U.S. Senator’s collection. Second will be to create a course in Canvas that meets department requirements and populate it with files. This position will work under the supervision of the University Archivist/department head.

The W. Frank Steely Library provides a wide range of library services to support the University’s commitment to student success, diversity, and academic needs of students and faculty in each academic college. Library faculty and staff have enhanced traditional services to better address 21st century information needs and are collaborative partners across campus. The library’s twenty faculty members and fourteen staff members are leading the implementation of NKU’s new campus-wide Quality Enhancement Plan on Information Literacy, launching a digital repository, and offering an online degree in library informatics.

Primary Responsibilities
• Review electronic files located on a variety of storage devices, in a variety of file formats to determine whether they can or can’t be opened or are duplicates; assist in technical appraisal of files.

• Migrate files or create backup copies as needed.

• Intellectually arrange electronic files and add to finding aid.

• Complete migration of Container List from spreadsheet to finding aid in Microsoft Word.

• Perform other tasks to complete processing of this collection.

• Create a course in Canvas that meets department requirements for digital delivery of files for which NKU is not the copyright owner, and populate with files.

• Responsible for helping maintain security of the physical space. Qualifications
Minimum –
• Master’s degree in archives administration; or library or information science or history with an archival concentration from an accredited program.
• Coursework in electronic records with possible work experience in electronic records.
• Knowledge of electronic records management, and digital preservation issues.
• Ability to be discrete, respect confidentiality of records and information.
• Able to lift and move 40 lb. boxes.

Preferred –
• Minimum of 6 months demonstrated experience working with electronic records.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities –
• Able to analyze information from multiple sources, synthesize and make reasonable conclusions.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, effectively and productively as a team member and to exercise independent judgement while accepting direction and guidance.
• Superior attention to detail.
• Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize, plan, organize and complete tasks by their deadline.
• Demonstrated proficiency with file management, Microsoft Excel and Word, Adobe Photoshop or similar photo editing software.
• Works effectively with a diverse population.
