Job Description:

Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under general supervision of the Director, provide overall leadership and coordination for developing, promoting, implementing and monitoring student life programs at the Des Plaines Campus. In addition, create and provide leadership opportunities and co-curricular services for the Oakton community. Use independent judgment in functional decisions based on the College's policies and practices.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (students)
  • Recruit, train, engage, and prepare students for leadership positions. Advise and support students individually and in group settings focusing on topics related to interpersonal skills, management techniques and conflict resolution.
  • Oversee the usage of student life designated space and manage reservations procedure.
  • Provide oversight to student club/organization budgets. Assist student leaders with annual budget process and SGA special allocations process.
  • Provide co-advising and support to the Student Government Association (SGA), lead at Des Plaines, and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).
  • Assist students with various initiatives. Provide training on College policy, procedure and practice.
  • Direct and support student leaders' efforts in planning and carrying out events. Evaluate and provide constructive feedback.
  • Organize and facilitate process for the development and formation of clubs and organizations. Assist and support clubs and advisors in all facets of program development.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of educational programs, working groups, committees and councils.
  • Create and implement leadership programs. Develop program series, select topics and speakers, prepare and monitor budgets, conduct evaluations, and assess outcomes.
  • Develop marketing programs and initiatives promoting student life on campus.
  • Support and represent the Office of Student Life in college wide initiatives as directed.
  • Travel with students to state and regional leadership conferences. Coordinate these events and initiatives with Student Life Administrative Assistant and/or Program Assistant.
  • Counsel students and connect them with academic and student support services, which enhance their experience.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (OSL)
  • Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate student life student employees.
  • Facilitate student organization and advisor training.
  • Coordinate and manage Student Engagement Platform including research, acquisitions, annual fees, student/advisor training, communication with key stakeholders, and general maintenance for both campuses.
  • Coordinate and manage of departmental information tables including reservation and maintenance.
  • In collaboration with Service learning faculty, assist with service learning initiatives related to the Office of Student Life. Develop opportunities for students to pursue service activities as individuals and through student clubs and organizations.
  • Assist with foundational Student Life initiatives.
  • Serve on College-wide committees as directed.
  • In the absence of the Director and the Manager of Student Life & Campus Inclusion, provide operational oversight to the Student Life and CCID.
  • Additional job related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Hiring Qualifications and Working Conditions:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or a related field is required.
  • 2-3 years of student leadership experience with an educational institution is required.
  • Graduate assistantship or similar internship experience in Student Life and/or Residential Life is preferred.
  • Two years supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Various social media and student engagement platforms preferred.
  • General office environment. Little to no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Additional Information:

Supervision Received

Functional Supervision received from the Manager of Student Life and Campus Inclusion. Administrative supervision is received from the Director of Student Life.

Supervision Exercised

Functional supervision is exercised over the OSL student employees.

HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 5:00 pm - Hours may vary during peak times.

SALARY: $55,249

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have remote or hybrid schedule options available. Please note, that during the 65 working day probationary period, employees are required to report to campus.
