DESCRIPTION

Central State University is looking for a creative, dynamic, and innovative person who at the forefront is a student-focused exemplary leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Education.  As the lead academic and administrative officer for the College of Education, the Dean will directly report to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and will serve on the Dean's Council.  The Dean will serve as the leader of all academic programs within the College of Education and will oversee all decisions pertaining to program accreditation, budget, curriculum development, and the allocation of resources.  The Dean will be the representative for the College of Education and will execute the college's strategic plan to ensure it is in alignment with the University's strategic plan.  The ideal candidate should possess a strong record of academic administration, research, scholarship, and teaching excellence.  The Dean must successfully engage and work well with all stakeholders and play a significant role in growth, academic success, community support, and engagement in the future of the College of Education.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate must have a strong record of academic experiences and have served in administrative leadership at or above the level of chair or director.

 

The Dean must be a collaborative, inspiring administrator and demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as a commitment to student success, faculty development, and program innovation.

 

Experience in higher education and an administrator with demonstrated expertise in managing the financial, academic, and research activities of a department or college.

 

Participatory management and leadership style that encourages and values input from others.

 

Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships and partnerships with internal and external campus constituencies.

 

Experience in program reviews, assessment, specialized accreditation, and familiarity with effective strategies to increase persistence, retention, and graduation rates.

 

An established record of demonstrating the recruitment and retention of high-quality faculty and staff.

 

Ability to develop and manage graduate and certificate programs, utilizing online and face-to-face classroom settings.

 

A demonstrated practice of sound fiscal planning and management and successful experience in fundraising is desirable.  Experience in securing and managing external funding.

 

Ability to collaborate with partners to advance the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the College of Education.

 

A demonstrated and strong commitment to shared governance and supervision of chairs, directors, faculty and staff.

 

Excellent oral and written communication skills

 

Perform other duties as assigned by the administrators.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

An earned doctorate or equivalent or appropriate terminal degree

Minimum of five years academic administrative experience

Experience in CAPE accreditation, program evaluation, and strategic planning

Ability to perform other duties as assigned by the administration
