The Department of Social Sciences in School of Arts and Social Sciences is now inviting suitable candidate(s) to join us for the following post(s). The Department of Social Sciences is committed to foster theoretical and practical knowledge, global awareness and critical thinking of students. It offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, covering the fields of psychology, economics, politics and public administration, and applied social studies.

 

Assistant Lecturer (Ref.: 22000Z3)

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Providing assistance in course planning, development, coordination and delivery (including classroom teaching) in Applied Social Studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Preparing (including drafting, or giving advice on the drafting) the handbook of ethical and procedural guidelines for service learning / practical training;
  • Liaising with community partners and supervising students in practical training and service learning;
  • Organizing student activities and workshops;
  • Undertaking/engaging in scholarly activities;
  • Participating in School/University activities and administration; and
  • Performing any other duties as assigned.

 

Candidates

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

  • A higher degree in sociology, applied social studies, social policy or social work, with expertise in areas of ageing and/or health, or a related discipline;
  • Relevant teaching/professional experience including programme development, course administration, and supervising students in practical training and service learning; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

 

The level of appointment depends on the candidate’s academic background, experience and competence in academic leadership, teaching, research, scholarly publications, etc.

An attractive remuneration package, including basic salary, an end-of-contract gratuity, and a discretionary incentive payment, where applicable, will be offered to the right candidates.
