Job Summary

The Budget Specialist II performs advanced budget functions. Monitors account balances, processes budget transactions, and reconciles accounts. The Budget Specialist II is primarily responsible for the Activity and Service budget.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Monitors assigned account balances.
  • Prepares budget transfers and journal voucher transactions.
  • Monitors budget activity and ensures proper documentation and authorizations are received.
  • Reconciles accounts, researches discrepancies, and initiates correction.
  • Advises and trains customers on policies and procedures.
  • Prepares routine and ad-hoc reports and statements.
  • Researches and responds to questions regarding budget issues.
  • Assists with budget planning, year-end closeout, and rolling of new fiscal year budgets.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six years of relevant full-time experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, finance, or budgeting.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Business Management, Finance, or closely related field.
  • Work experience in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of basic budgeting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Banner or similar enterprise financial management software application.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and vendors.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, organize and present complex financial data in a meaningful manner.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion.
Salary Range: $33,100 to $42,200
