Position Summary

The counselor/clinical case manager (approximately 70/30% split responsibilities) is under the general supervision of the Director of the Counseling and Testing Center ( CTC ). The counselor/clinical case manager will function as a generalist conducting brief counseling services (including triage, individual, crisis, group therapy) to students. The counselor/clinical case manager will also provide mental health case management services, including (but not limited to): identifying community/regional referral resources relevant to the needs of our students, developing relationships with campus and community agencies, facilitating referrals for students in need of assistance from other university departments and/or community resources, maintaining and updating the CTC’s referral list, and tracking and following-up on referrals made to ensure continuity of care.

Other responsibilities include: consultation, in-service training, and outreach, as well as crisis intervention services and public relations services to campus and community members as appropriate. The clinical case manager/counselor will participate on staff, student affairs, and university committees. Similar to all staff at the Counseling and Testing Center, the counselor/clinical case manager will work to integrate the ideals and goals of inclusive excellence in all aforementioned activities.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, approved by the WI Professional Counselor section ( MPSW 14.01 ); either currently licensed as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT or working towards one of those licenses.
• The CTC is committed to equity and inclusion, and seeks mental health clinicians who are dedicated to ongoing learning and integrating a multicultural perspective into all aspects of their work.

Preferred Qualifications

• All post-degree supervised hours completed by start date ; currently licensed as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in clinical case management and the ability to collaborate with co-workers, departments and community agencies.
• Experience identifying resources with in-network and out-of-network insurance plans.
• Experience conducting outreach programming, presentations, trainings, and/or workshops relevant to college students.
• Two or more years of post-graduate clinical experience, with significant experience conducting brief therapy with emerging adults for a wide range of presenting concerns. Experience with solution-focused ( SFBT ) and other brief treatment models is desired.
• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to persons identifying as: first generation college student, low income, person of color, LGB, transgender and gender non-conforming, veteran. Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience working with culturally, racially, and diagnostically diverse college students.
• Experience providing treatment to underserved clients, including but not limited to: male-identified adults, students of color, athletes, veterans.
• Experience conducting assessment and providing treatment for adults in one or more of the following areas: men and masculinity concerns, crisis management, concerns related to neurodiversity.
• Commitment to providing group counseling (psychoeducational/skills, support, and therapy groups).
• Significant experience with crisis intervention and risk assessment.
• Interest and/or experience providing clinical supervision.

Working conditions and environment

Typical office hours (7:45am-4:30pm). Evening hours may be required as we expand our services (e.g., one evening/week), with a schedule adjustment made to maintain an average of 40 hours/week onsite. While no after-hours crisis coverage is required, our clinical staff members occasionally provide evening outreach programming and may be called in for a campus crisis response.

Expectations are to provide in-person counseling services; however, if public health concerns persist, some remote services will be required.
