Position Summary Information

Position Summary
Working with faculty to coordinate materials that need embossed or changed for accessibility

Meeting with students weekly to assess the needs in the classroom/periodic check-ins to ensure accommodations are appropriate

Working with various faculty to coordinate materials and classroom/lab assistants

Consults closely with Supervisor regarding complex accommodation needs

Conducts individual assessment to determine appropriate academic accommodations, auxiliary services, and supplemental support services to ensure removal of classroom barriers

Requires regular oversight and consultation with director for accommodations decisions

Communicates student accommodation needs to faculty

Coordinates and negotiates with faculty to ensure students receive accommodations in a timely and effective manner including discussing the basic course requirements and any concerns regarding the reasonableness of accommodations in a specific setting

Serves as a resource to faculty, staff, departments and campus community on disability issues related to blind students

Develops working relationships with multiple campus departments, may be called upon to visit departments to share overview of ODS resources related to blind students

Refers students to other supportive services

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree
Experience working with individuals with disabilities in an academic setting Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in counseling, higher education, or related field
Experience working with blind and/or visually impaired individuals in an academic setting, preferably higher education
Extensive experience working with individuals with various disabilities
Understanding of ADA and removal of barriers for classroom accommodations
