JOB SUMMARY:
The assistant professor holds a doctoral degree in the field of physical therapy. The assistant professor not given time toward tenure at the time of hire typically applies in the sixth year for promotion and tenure. The assistant professor's teaching responsibilities are assigned by the Dean/Program Director. The assistant professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the College.
The Assistant Director of Clinical Education will assist the Director of Clinical Education in maintaining strong clinical education relationships and possess the leadership, managerial, organizational, and communication skills necessary to assist in implementation of the clinical education component of the curriculum.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Prepare and deliver lectures, lead classroom discussions,
teach, assist, and/or coordinate laboratories, and engage students
in a variety of experiential learning opportunities.
2. Administer and grade examinations and other academic
assignments.
3. Maintain an appropriate scholarly agenda to meet CAPTE research
requirements and demonstrate evidence-based research related to
physical therapy.
4. Remain up to date in the field of physical therapy in a chosen
area of expertise.
5. Enriched interactions with students.
6. Mentor and advise undergraduate majors and graduate DPT students
as needed.
7. Engage graduate students in mentored research projects and
independent study as needed.
8. Engage in recruitment and other service activities.
9. Participate in departmental governance.
10. Participate in other duties as assigned by the Dean/Program
Director.
11. Foster and promote collegial relations among faculty, students,
and staff.
12. Participate in all regularly scheduled and called faculty
meetings, special formal convocations, commencement exercises, end
of the semester meetings, and regularly scheduled faculty
workshops.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Possess an entry-level physical therapy degree from a
CAPTE-accredited institution.
2. Possess a DPT degree from a regionally-accredited institution
and an advanced doctoral degree.
3. Have a current license to practice as a PT in any United States
jurisdiction with the ability to obtain a Physical Therapy license
in Florida.
4. Have a minimum of three years of full-time (or equivalent)
post-licensure clinical practice.
5. Have a minimum of two years of clinical practice as a SCCE
and/or CI or two years of experience in teaching, curriculum
development, and administration in a PT program.
6. Be able to pass a Level 2 FDLE Criminal Background Check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. A major part of the job is performed while sitting, although the work does require regular standing and walking; talking and hearing, both in person and by telephone; use of hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.
