ABOUT CATHOLIC GUARDIAN SERVICES: Catholic Guardian Services (CGS) is a sophisticated human services not-for-profit organization with important programs that respond to the needs of some of the most disadvantaged people in the New York City metropolitan area. CGS’s mission is focused on building stronger families and healthier communities among some of the highest-risk and underserved populations and communities. The organization seeks to understand and impact the social determinants of health that will allow people to thrive.

In pursuit of this ambitious mission, CGS develops and delivers high-impact, high-quality, and high-utility services to a broad client base. CGS works with policy makers, practitioners, research, and academia, using the best practices to meaningfully influence lives of infants, children, youth, and adults.

With over 700 employees deployed across 4 offices and 17+ residential facilities serving thousands of people daily, CGS’s reach and impact are vast. The organization, working at the local and state levels for more than 130 years, operates 15 distinct programs, and provides a wide range of services in the following areas: child abuse and neglect prevention, foster care, maternity services, developmental disabilities, behavioral health, and immigration services. The organization’s strategic plan seeks growth in the areas where critical gaps exist, specifically in the areas of behavioral health, services for people with autism, supportive housing, and immigration services.

CGS’s programs and services are delivered in partnership with affiliates within the Archdiocese of New York, New York City and State governments, education agencies, foundations, policymakers, advocacy groups, and others also committed to the well-being of those entrusted to its care. FUNDING: CGS has a current operating budget of approximately $74 million, of which the majority is received from public (government) sources; additional revenue is generated through philanthropy and earned revenue.

THE OPPORTUNITY: The Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) plays a critical role in developing and implementing the strategy created for CGS’s financial stability and ongoing growth, allowing the organization to reach more people in need. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFAO is an advisor to the Executive Director and Board of Directors and is responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization in conjunction with the Board of Directors and the Finance, Audit, and Investment Committees of the Board.

The CFAO reports to and partners with the Executive Director, Craig Longley, and will also work closely with the Board of Directors. The CFAO will also staff the Finance, Audit, and Investments Committees of the Board. Reporting to the CFAO is a team that includes the Assistant Executive Director for Finance, and Assistant Executive Director for Administrative Services. The individual in this role will also work closely with the program team. The CGS culture is universally described by staff and Board as a respectful, caring environment.
