The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and
in conjunction with the Seton
is seeking a board certified/board
eligible Psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty and serve as an
inpatient team leader in Austin, Texas. We seek a physician who
will help our department achieve the goal of working with our
community partners to develop clinical, educational and research
initiatives that revolutionize how people get and stay mentally
healthy in Central Texas and beyond.
The Department is committed to fostering a culture that values and

training methods, research and service to the community. Our
Department leads psychiatry education for the Dell Medical School
and its post-graduate programs train mental health professionals to
become 21st-century leaders in the fields of psychiatry and
psychology. Clinical services provide culturally informed,
evidence-based care for individuals and families in multiple
general medical and specialty behavioral health settings with an
active and strong presence in community settings. Importantly, the
Department is leading efforts at the University of Texas-Austin to
execute cutting-edge basic and clinical research that illuminates
the underlying neurobiological causes of psychiatric disorders and
identifies novel treatments for psychiatric disorders.
To help us achieve these goals, we seek candidates who are
committed to providing care within a diverse and growing community

lives. A clinical assignment will occur through our department's
collaboration with Seton Healthcare Family, with the physician
providing clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary inpatient
team. Primary responsibilities will include providing world-class
medicine and clinical expertise to evaluate and treat a broad
spectrum of psychiatric disorders in an inpatient setting.

The successful candidate's appointment within the department
requires regular participation in educational activities with
medical students and residents. In addition, the physician will
have the opportunity to participate in ongoing development of
training programs and collaborations that allow for the pursuit of
innovative clinical programming and research initiatives.

Primary Duties and Expectations
Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit:
- Provide high-quality clinical care and clinical teaching.
- Dell Medical School is committed to enabling faculty to engage
in scholarly activities including teaching, publications,
presenting work at national and international meetings, and work
with care providers and health care delivery networks to implement
research in practice.
- Work collaboratively with Dell Medical School, Seton leadership
and the medical directors, physician providers and other clinical
staff to develop excellence in service and clinical care, optimal
outcomes, and efficient resource utilization;
- Opportunity to participate in many aspects of residency
training program, including didactic presentations, resident
recruitment and support.
- Train and mentor students, residents and fellows on new models
of care and clinical practice.
- Develop and foster an atmosphere of scientific and academic
inquiry in conjunction with trainees within the multidisciplinary
- Collaborate with other schools at The University of Texas at
Austin and across The University of Texas system on
multidisciplinary, innovative care models.
- Participate with community based partners, including local
mental health authorities, local state hospital and other public
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of general adult psychiatry:
possesses the communication skills necessary to obtain information
through the clinical interview and interpret response to treatment;
understands the impact of various psychosocial systems on
treatment; understands age specific psychopharmacology.
- Provides and appropriately documents in person and/or
telemedical psychiatric evaluations consistent with the standard of
care and in accordance with any applicable guidelines and
documentation requirements. Psychiatric diagnosis is supported by

management services consistent with the standard of care and in

- Demonstrates excellent collaboration skills, facilitating
treatment team that includes multiple disciplines and trainees.
Appropriately delegates care tasks and plays central role in
supervising psychiatric resident work.
- Documents all services in a professional manner, using approved
medical records system and forms. All services are documented
within 24 hours of service delivery. Documents pertinent
information between appointments, including phone calls, medication
- Leads/participates treatment team meetings as indicated.
Attends and participates in medical staff meetings, peer review,
quality management activities, and other activities within the
scope of a Adult Inpatient Psychiatrist and as assigned by the
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and complies with attendance, work
schedule, on-call policies, center policies/procedures,
professional/legal requirements, and billing standards. Maintains
required training, licensure, and certificates.

- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of
Texas, or the ability to obtain prior to appointment.
