Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: The position of Director of the School of Management and Marketing at Western Illinois University (Macomb campus) will begin on August 1, 2022; or a mutually agreeable date to be negotiated.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The school Director is the academic leader and administrative officer of the unit and has the responsibility for ensuring and promoting educational excellence, professional growth, and service to society among and between faculty, students, staff, alumni, and the general public. The school director will work closely with the Dean of the College of Business and Technology to provide continuous improvement in processes and protocols relating to AACSB reaffirmation, foster a collaborative environment that strengthens engagements within the college and with external stakeholders including industry partners, alumni, and community leaders. The director will also be actively engaged in the recruitment and professional development of students and faculty, directing and advising on curricular revision, implementing course schedules and required assessment activities, and overseeing the budgeting process for the unit, cultivating a supportive environment that results in significant alliances with industry, government, and other relevant constituencies, and engaging in responsible stewardship to ensure positive, mission based outcomes.

This position reports to the Dean of the College of Business and Technology, who reports to the Provost. Faculty and office support staff associated with the academic unit report to the director.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate from an AACSB Accredited Institution in one of the degree granting disciplines represented within the school (Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, and Supply Chain) is required. The position requires significant familiarity with the academic administrative environment and a demonstrated record of effective teaching, research/scholarship, and service-related activities. The position also requires significant experience related to curriculum development, academic administration, community relations, faculty evaluation, donor relations, and stewardship. Fiscal management, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and leadership skills are required. Finally, the position requires excellent written, oral, and technology application skills. Successful candidates must be eligible for tenure at the full professor rank upon hiring.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated experience with building industry partnerships in a multidisciplinary setting that lead to experiential learning opportunities for students and support the mission of the school, college and university. Demonstrated experience in leveraging technology to effect efficient operations in a complex academic unit. Successful candidates should also possess a demonstrated record of funding proposal preparation and associated stewardship administration.

Also preferred is the ability to effectively recruit, retain, and interact with students (potential and current), student family members (in recruiting situations), faculty, administration, alumni, potential employers/external industry partners, potential donors, university support staff, university advisors, and external advisory board members.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

THE SCHOOL: The multi-disciplinary nature of the School of Management and Marketing reflects the goal of leveraging the complimentary nature of several business disciplines to effect a more engaged and holistic approach to business education. The unit contains containing four distinct undergraduate programs representing each of the core disciplines. The school strongly supports MBA Core curriculum offerings as well as a post baccalaureate certificate in Supply Chain Management. As part of the College of Business and Technology, the School of Management and Marketing is accredited by. By working closely with industry partners and alumni, the school is able to implement innovative programs for students and enhance student and faculty engagement in the educational process, resulting in high impact outcomes for all constituents.

Student Resources

There are more than 200 student organizations at Western that provide social, academic, recreation, sports, service, and many other opportunities for students to grow and learn, develop leadership skills, and much more. The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.
