Under the general direction of the Associate Athletic Director
for Communications, the assistant director will be responsible for
managing, organizing, and distributing information regarding
athletics teams, competitions, and special events, with primary
responsibilities for volleyball, women’s basketball, baseball, and
women’s golf and directing social media information. This position
must also have experience hosting
Conference/ NCAA championships as the media
coordinator.
Other duties include:
• Coordinate the dissemination of news, features, statistics,
photos, video, and social media for the assigned sports to media
outlets and website services on a local, regional and national
level. Compile and update statistics on a weekly basis
using Sidearm, file conference
and NCAA reports in a timely manner. Serve as the primary
media contact and game-day staffer for assigned sports to include
oversight of all game day media operations including statistic
crews, photographers, video streaming crews, Public Address
announcers and work with athletic marketing to coordinate game day
promotions. In addition, serve as the content developer for all
assigned sport related media to include website, game notes,
features, video features, media/recruiting guides, game-day program
features.
• Develop and coordinate social media campaigns directed at
providing updates, bulletins, uploading video and general
information on all 18 intercollegiate sports on a daily
basis.
• Create and maintain working, professional relationships with the
office of athletic community relations, creative and video
services, ODU Sports Properties, athletic marketing and
the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation to communicate information to
constituents and coordinate sponsor, marketing related activities
during game day activities of assigned sports.
• Communicate and meet all required deadlines for assigned sports
with Conference USA and the NCAA.
• Follow and adhere to all University, Conference
and NCAA rules.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in journalism, mass communications, sports
management, or other related field; bachelor’s degree in related
discipline with equivalent experience of master’s degree may be
substituted. Driver’s license and insurable driving record. Some
related experience in a collegiate athletic or sports environment.
Working knowledge of automated scorebooks, Adobe Design editing
software and other graphic design related programs. Basic video
editing skills with strong computer skills. Ability to communicate
in both written and oral forms. Understanding of media deadlines
with ability to complete assigned tasks in an efficient and timely
manner. Ability to work nights and weekends.
