Duties: Primary responsibilities are to conduct the Symphony Band, teach graduate conducting students, and provide comprehensive administrative guidance for the entire university band program. The appointee will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, create an innovative curriculum for a broad range of students of varied identities and backgrounds who seek to explore a range of educational opportunities and career pathways, recruit and retain students of exceptional promise and develop and maintain a visible national and international profile as a conductor and a pedagogue. The appointee will also be expected to participate in faculty governance, attend faculty meetings and serve on faculty and University committees as appropriate.
QualificationsDemonstrable musical artistry, ability to educate and inspire student musicians. Significant knowledge of repertoire requisite to the position. Demonstrable commitment to programming diverse and innovative repertoire that includes works by living composers, and composers from historically marginalized communities. Demonstrated ability to empower, advocate for, and value a broad range of students of diverse identities and experiences, as shown through pedagogy, mentoring, and related activities. Evidence of a highly effective conducting pedagogy and ability to recruit exemplary graduate conducting students. D.M.A. or commensurate professional experience required.
