Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Lifeguard position. The Lifeguard is a part-time, casual position, without benefits, starting at $16.00/hour. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

Reporting to both Athletics and Conferences & Special Events, the position e nsures the safety of patrons and oversee activities at Pratt Pool. The lifeguard will monitor all aquatic activities and explain safety rules to patrons. Must be able to judge situations and make swift decisions that revolve around safety for all. The approximate dates of the position are Sunday, June 19 - Saturday, August 6. The lifeguard takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety of patrons and oversee activities at Pratt Pool
  • Explaining and enforcing rules, regulations, and policies to ensure the safety of patrons
  • Monitoring designated areas to recognize signs of danger
  • Warning swimmers regarding unsafe situations
  • Responding to emergencies and rescuing swimmers in danger of drowning


Qualifications

Required:
  • Valid Lifeguard Training
  • CPR for the professional rescuer
  • First Aid certification
  • AED certification
