Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track position of Instructor in the Administration of Justice degree and certificate programs within the Business, Health Sciences & Homeland Security division.  The anticipated start date is August 1, 2022


POSITION DESCRIPTION:  In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, the successful applicant will serve as an instructor in the Administration of Justice and Police Academy program and certificate programs.  As instructor, the individual will assist with the organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, and overall effectiveness of programming as required by the Illinois Training and Standards Board. As an instructor, the individual will teach Administration of Justice courses in both the traditional and computerized environment.  The individual will also assess student performance and collaborate with Administration of Justice & Police Academy faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in the program. Opportunities exist for participation in professional development activities and service on departmental, divisional, and/or college-wide committees.



  1. Five years of state, municipal, and/or county law enforcement and corrections experience required.
  2. Associates of Arts or Associates of Applied Science degree in Administration of Justice or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  3. Must obtain approval from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board for supervisory and instructional responsibilities within 1 year of employment.
  4. Prior service as an instructor in an accredited Law Enforcement/Correctional Academy or Administration of Justice program at an institution of higher learning preferred.
  5. Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.
  6. Competency with applicable software systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackboard, etc.) preferred.
  7. Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.
  8. A valid driver’s license required.


STARTING SALARY:  This is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule.  For example, the minimum 2021-2022 starting salary at Step 1 Bachelor's Degree column is $48,011; Step 1 Master's Degree is $50,951.  Voluntary overload teaching assignments and mandatory summer program coordination may increase the annual compensation by 40%.  The College offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.


WORK LOCATION:  Administration of Justice instructional responsibilities at the Belleville campus with assistance in police academy training throughout the state.  Driving may be required to reach off-campus teaching/training sites, visit police departments throughout the region and to attend professional functions within the state of Illinois.
