Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Campus Ministry, the Campus Minister for Social Justice (CM for Social Justice) operates as a member of the Campus Ministry team to facilitate the integration and promotion of a "faith that does justice," keeping in mind the mission of Seattle University, which is to educate leaders for a just and humane world. The Campus Minister for Social Justice works to coordinate a range of developmental formation experiences in community service, social justice education, advocacy, and social analysis which draw religious, secular, and spiritual students into growth and action to create a more just world.

Essential Functions

The Campus Minister for Social Justice coordinates justice-related educational, reflective, and prayer-based events and opportunities for Seattle University students and the greater campus community. This includes acting as liaison with on-campus and community partners, including Career Engagement, the Center for Service and Community Engagement, and Immaculate Conception Parish, to support a variety of service opportunities as well as recruiting, training, and supporting student leaders and leading reflection opportunities for volunteers. Serve as liaison with post-graduate service organizations such as the Jesuit Volunteers, Jesuit Volunteers Northwest, and others. The person in this position also partners with the Housing and Residence Life Area Coordinator for the Kolvenbach Community, a small intentional living community. This involves helping coordinate service placements and regular opportunities for learning and reflection.

Oversee the systemization and implementation of Campus Ministry domestic and international immersion experiences. This includes formation of chaplains and student leaders, coordinating immersion curriculum and supporting fundraising efforts.

In consultation with the Director of Campus Ministry and coordinating with other departments at the University, the Campus Minister for Social Justice oversees the textbook lending library, the Commencement Closet, and other initiatives that support students who demonstrate high financial need.

The Campus Minister will supervise and provide leadership formation for one Student Campus Minister for Social Justice who assists with programming, peer outreach, and cohort facilitation.

As an integral member of the Campus Ministry team, the Campus Minister for Social Justice contributes to the administrative and strategic planning in the department and participates in at least one annual student immersion experience and retreats as requested. Other administrative duties involve participation in departmental activities including, but not limited to: liturgies and community vigils, service on university committees, weekly staff meetings, and divisional meetings.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; Master of Divinity or Student Development Administration, or other post-graduate theological degree preferred.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Experience in coordinating multiple programs and events simultaneously.
• Interest in and experience of working with college students.
• Experience in leading social justice initiatives with a spiritual focus.
• Interest in and experience of leadership training, especially of young adults. Understanding of and ability to provide formation in Ignatian Spirituality.  Competence in the Microsoft Office Suite, comfortable navigating social media, web pages and other marketing tools, ability to learn Qualtrics, a software designed to process applications and administer surveys.
• Ability to navigate budget material and manage assessment, including timely reporting and updates to Senior Administrative Assistant.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Openness to the Jesuit, Catholic mission of the department and the university, and able to communicate that mission.
• Ability to work under supervision and take initiative where appropriate.
• Ability to navigate collaboration with other university departments as needed.
• Ability to sustain appropriate boundaries in pastoral relationships with undergraduate students.
• Availability some nights and weekends for meetings, immersions, and retreats.
