The Nido R. Qubein School of Communication at High Point University is searching for a new colleague in strategic communication with a specialization in advertising. This non-tenure track position is open to candidates of all ranks and will begin August 2022.  The colleague hired in this position will be eligible for promotion and a multi-year, renewable contract. This colleague will be expected to an maintain active research or professional development program and will be provided with funding to maintain their professional growth.


This position focuses on the students' creative development and is intended for an industry leader with the ability and drive to help today's students be successful in a changing industry. This colleague will teach a variety of undergraduate courses and will have the opportunity to add more specialized courses to the curriculum if desired. Graduate teaching opportunities in our innovative Communication and Business Leadership program are also available.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Be a good communicator, collaborator and team player who can thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, extraordinary environment
  • Ability to teach advertising in both traditional and new media settings.
  • A commitment to quality teaching, professional growth, and university service.
  • University level teaching experience preferred



MS/MA in Communication or closely related area with significant professional experience in the advertising industry in a position of creative leadership; or a MFA or PhD. 


Essential Functions:

  • The candidate will also teach a foundational skills course that focuses on Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign, web and/or video production as part of the School's core curriculum.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to mentor both undergraduate and graduate students, advise a competitive NSAC team, and establish and maintain networks with the advertising industry.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across campus for curriculum design and delivery.  
  • Recruit and advise current and entering students.
  • Maintain an active research or professional development program.
  • Act as a representative and advocate for the program, school, and the university.
  • Actively participate in committees within the department, school, and university in professional and governmental organizations.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the department chair
