    PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) at Kentucky State University is looking for an EFNEP Program Assistant to implement public education to increase the consumption of nutritious foods and encourage healthy lifestyle choices among limited-resource families throughout Jefferson County. The EFNEP Program Assistants will be required to possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. The EFNEP Program Assistant will be a member of the off-campus Extension staff of Kentucky State University as part of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension System and will work closely with the Extension Specialist for Dietetics and Human Nutrition for educational program support.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The EFNEP Program Assistant will be responsible for teaching in-person and virtual programs to families, individually and in small groups, as well as special programs and events in targeted communities and schools as directed. This includes presenting a series of lessons that focus on general nutrition, food preparation, food safety, and food budgeting. Nutrition education may take place at County agencies or in participant homes for residents in Jefferson county to achieve nutrition goals and outcomes for targeted audiences including underserved audiences, minorities, youth, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible families. EFNEP Program Assistant will also present basic nutrition topics at special programs and events in targeted communities and schools as directed. Recruitment of participants is also included as part of the workday. Collect and manage participant data ensuring confidentiality at all times.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Recruit youth and families to participate in the EFNEP Program.

    2. Conduct non-formal nutrition education learning experiences with the identified audience using identified nutrition education curricula.

    3. Reach, at minimum 150 youth and 54 adults

    4. Develop and present nutrition, food preparation, food selection, and food safety demonstrations.

    5. Routinely collects, compiles, and updates program data, needed for reporting while meeting the required deadlines.

    6. Attend all training meetings and conferences.

    7. Work collaboratively with other community agencies and resources.

    The position will conduct other duties as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED required; additional education preferred. Possess a valid Kentucky driver's license and insured automobile for business mileage reimbursement.

    Licensing and Certifications: None.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

    • Experience working with youth, adults, and/or families who come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

    • Ability to learn and present basic nutrition information and implement educational events.

    • Knowledge of local community organizations and agencies.

    • Oral and written communication skills.

    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITY: This position does not have supervisory responsibility

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to travel, primarily in-state (25%).

    • Occasionally may need to move light equipment and carry supplies, publications, and needed equipment for demonstration and training programs.

    • Occasional outdoor work
