Compensation and Benefits Data Analyst

We are thrilled to announce a newly created opening for a Compensation and Benefits Data Analyst. The Analyst will play a significant role in redesigning and developing staff pay practices, analyzing total compensation and benefits offerings, and industry trends. They will provide professional guidance, project management, and data analysis in the effective and consistent application of staff job classification and compensation and benefits administration policies and practices.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of HRIS and Data Analytics, the Compensation and Benefits Data Analyst designs, analyzes, and administers the Williams College Staff Compensation Program, including base pay, bonuses, and bonafide pay-for-performance, that align with the college’s objectives for recruitment, retention, and employee engagement. The successful candidate will demonstrate current knowledge of compensation administration principles, data analytics, and the ability to build credibility and trust. This position is based at our Williamstown, MA campus and may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the design, development, and implementation of compensation programs and infrastructure. Serves as point person with outside vendors for pay equity and compensation plan design projects. Responsible for administration of compensation programs.
  • Collaborates with the HRIS team to develop our new enterprise system infrastructure to maximize efficiencies, leveraging technology and approach to job structures and other components in position management and administration.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and maintains job descriptions for each staff position in the organization.
  • Collaborates with HR colleagues and department heads in the analysis and review of job classification and reclassification requests; benchmarks jobs against survey data and other market intelligence to determine competitive compensation ranges for each position.
  • Assists and collaborates, as appropriate, in the planning, coordination, facilitation, administration, and reporting of the annual salary review program and performance-based merit and bonus programs.
  • Researches and analyzes competitive compensation practices in the job market; contributes to established compensation surveys and/or develops and implements custom surveys as appropriate. Conducts data analysis to present detailed results, summary reports, and market trends.
  • Conducts ongoing analysis of benefits and leave utilization, benefits enrollment, and other audits as assigned.
  • Coordinates with Assistant Director of Benefits and Wellbeing, Benefits Specialist, insurance broker, and relevant vendors to analyze and advise on benefits programs.
  • Researches employee benefits in similar industries; based on findings, recommends changes or updates to the company’s existing benefits or policies. Conducts surveys and focus groups to collect employee feedback on specific issues or topics related to benefits and compensation.
  • Advises management on applicable state and federal employment regulations, benefits and compensation policies, and human resource procedures.
  • Contribute to cross-functional HR initiatives and other duties as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree plus at least 3 years of relevant experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification is desirable.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports, including the design and implementation of customized compensation surveys.
  • Project, program, and time management abilities are essential with superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong competency in Microsoft Office and Google Applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated critical and creative thinking skills as well as good judgment by anticipating the consequences of actions and weighing multiple, sometimes conflicting, priorities in a confidential and sensitive manner.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, staffing patterns, and job design in a higher education environment is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of job analysis and job evaluation principles, methods, and procedures as well as FLSA standards. Skill in developing policy and procedure documentation.
